Dancing on the Edge of the Volcano

 Walking Away

You used to be there when I looked
I heard the laugh in your voice
Holding you tight and feeling safe
Being there was our choice

The temperature suddenly changed
Your arms remained crossed
I saw the doors close before me
Somewhere we were lost

The reasons have never been clear
You passed judgment so fast
Cuz you never really loved me
It was never meant to last

The wounds are covered with scars
Yet, they have never healed
I heard the laugh in your voice
Behind my armored shield

 Illusive Love

The darkness is so very thick
And even though it renders me blind
There’s a movement of the air
I can feel you approach from behind

You barely brush my shoulder
With your breath and a kiss from you lips
My body lets out a shudder
As you brush my hair with your fingertips

There is an agonizing ache
That rises up from deep inside my core
From the distance between
Making me long for you like never before

Catching my breath in gasps
Reaching out in the dark to find you
The sound of you in my head
Because the illusion feels so very true

 The Countryside

All the open spaces
Trees, tall grass, wild flowers
Wind caresses these places
And I could stare for hours

It fills the trip
With such enormous peace
I keep my grip
And a smile that doesn't cease

I would stay here
Listening to the birds and bugs
It holds no fear
And delivers nature's hugs

 Husband's Serenade

Okay--I didn't write this but my husband serenaded me with it on our trip back home Tuesday night. He sings this to me a lot. And it melts me everytime.

Everything I Own--by David Gates and Bread

You sheltered me from harm.
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, Set me free
The finest years I ever knew
were all the years I had with you

I would give anything I own,
Give up me life, my heart, my home.
I would give everything I own,
just to have you back again.

You taught me how to love,
What its of, what its of.
You never said too much,
but still you showed the way,
and I knew from watching you.
Nobody else could ever know
the part of me that can't let go.

I would give anything I own,
Give up me life, my heart, my home.
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again.

Is there someone you know,
you're loving them so,
but taking them all for granted.
You may lose them one day,
someone takes them away,
and they don't hear the words you long to say

I would give anything I own,
Give up me life, my heart, my home.
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again.

 The Last Tear

I've never blamed you
The fault's always been mine
You have never been wrong
I never drew the line

I've spent too much time
Being alone in my head
And again tonight
Being alone in our bed

Here I lay in the quiet
Feeling the breeze of the fan
No arms to close round me
To hold me like only you can

I just let the tears flow
Not in self pity or sorrow
But for what I'm missing--
My hope for tomorrow

My core has been drained
Only for my two am I here
What will later move me
When they're grown, is not clear

Who will really notice
If I should just disappear
I will quietly slip away
Like the trace of my last tear
