Dancing on the Edge of the Volcano

 Curtain Call

Winds blow across desert sands
The dunes keep growing deeper
Revealing all the soulless bodies
Collected by the reaper

If you listen very carefully
You'll hear them as they shatter
The hearts that lovers fling aside
As if they never mattered

You can walk amongst the rubble
And take an inventory
The writer lifts his pen
For the ending of his story

You walk outside and turn to watch
The heavy doors swing closed
It wasn't life you came to join
But for pictures that you posed

The blood was spilt upon the floor
The knife plunged through the heart
You sadly grimaced with the pain
As the whole thing fell apart

Collect it all and walk away
And take your curtain call
The theater has more for you
Seems it wasn't real at all

 Painful Reminder

I came to the fork in the road
Turned down a familiar lane
Once chosen by my friends
For me it caused much pain

I yearn to find another fork
And steer myself away
There is one up ahead
I traveled towards today

I wish the choices made by you
Would lead you to the same
Path that I will travel soon
My wishes could be vain

I handed you my heart to keep
And you took it without a fight
I feel the empty ache where it
Beat within me day and night

Yet now there seems to be
A chasm in between
What I have and what I want
And no happy ending seen

It’s true fate can be cruel
And time could be kinder
This ‘me missing you’
Is a painful reminder

The Old Man Two Doors Down

He shuffles along
Slowly but definite
Every day the same
Time no longer infinite

I smile and wave
He doesn't seem to see
His eye sight's weak
Has somewhere to be

Then there's days
He'll stop and turn
Begins to converse
Has words to burn

Each time there's more
Of himself he reveals
Past and present
What he thinks and feels

 Clouds

Sometimes the clouds that gather
Just obscure the view
And if a wind should follow
You hang on until it's through

The hardest person to forgive
Is shown in the reflection
Because you expect nothing less
Then ultimate perfection

Sweeping up the broken shards
Each jagged piece reminds
Makes an unseen hurtful gash
To which your agony can bind
